The artist Andries J P Bondesio was born in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and raised on a tobacco farm during the Rhodesian bush war. The family later immigrated to South Africa where he received his education. He currently resides in Marble Hall, Limpopo where his studio and businesses are situated in and around his beautiful home.
These businesses include an art gallery for his own and fellow artists' work and a gymnasium. His other talents and businesses include interior decorating, photography and landscaping.
He received no formal training in the arts, but received all his talents from the Creator. Being born and bred in beautiful Africa and with his all consuming love for art he started drawing his inspiration from the beauty that surrounded him. His work has been distributed to 46 different countries throughout the world. He started painting bird and wildlife scenes as well as bushman paintings and quickly progressed to painting portraits of the hunter and his prey, a combination not easily found. Andries’ art gallery, Bondesio Arts, was opened on the 26th of May 2005 with his and a fellow artist’s work on display.
Andries has a variety of painting styles, techniques and mediums that he uses. It varies from oil or acrylic, or a combination of both, pencil or charcoal on mediums such as canvas, genuine leather, ostrich eggs or rock framed with formal frames or wooden frames handmade from indigenous wood or placed on a stand.
He also has his own unique leather paintings with frames that he himself creates from indigenous wood. Other themes include wildlife and birdlife, landscape scenes, floral and botanical, antiques and classics, portraits, modern and realism, nudes, ethnic and African scenes, architecture, hunter and prey, Tuscan, 3-dimensional paintings and curios. He draws his inspiration from the beauty that surroundedhim, using his talent as photographer to capture ideas for his work. He also creates paintings on consignment to clients' specification, whether it is a photo from that perfect holiday, or the faces of loved ones that needs to be captured in a special painting.
In his own words: "Each artist tries to create a masterpiece, what I strive to capture on canvas is the essence of nature - the force, magnificent beauty and perfection of mother nature is my inspiration. I draw strength from the gentle rhythm of life, the changing of seasons from the dawning of a new life to the inevitable ending of another. With my soul I try and catch and create a glimpse, a ray or shade that one can feel, hold on to and treasure - our roots, our heritage, so easily forgotten."
